Healthy marine ecosystems are important for our planet since they provide services including food security, feed for livestock , raw materials for medicines, building materials from coral rock and sand, and act as a natural defence against hazards such as coastal erosion and inundation. Over-exploitation of these natural resources and climate change poses a great threat to our marine biodiversity which is the source of livelihood for millions of people around the world. Let us know some more about this biodiversity and the various organisations working towards its protection.
